Gage caught a ten pound salmon today. The fish came in a flurry of action with six fish biting in about 20 minutes, five of them hooked long enough to see them and two big enough to keep. You'll notice that Gage properly masked his fish as soon as he brought it aboard. He was out in front of Bird in 220 feet of water. It sounds like a second, over thirty pound salmon was caught out of Bodega Bay today. There were a number of boats hooking doubles of salmon today. Most of the action took place in a couple of little spurts of action. Generally, that time was when I wasn't on the water (I went out twice and got skunked twice. At least I'm consistent). For all you guys champing at the bit to go fishing, just know you're not missing the really, really good stuff yet. You can see it coming, though. I have become aware that Marin County leadership is very cognizant of your desire to go fishing and/or otherwise use the launch ramps. The problem is that with almost everywhere closed any open ramp will likely be mobbed on the first good weather/bite day. Remember Westside launch in 2012 when the wide open salmon bite was right around the corner? Imagine that during the age of the coronavirus. Whether or not everybody is practicing their masked social distancing, 500 curtain wranglers will get their panties bunched and overwhelm the 911 system. Heads will roll, and some of those rolling heads may be yours and mine. I heard that today the Marin Sheriff, who had mostly been warning people that they would get ticketed for using the Marconi launch, actually started ticketing vehicles, two tickets for vehicles with a boat trailer. I also heard that the Sheriff had issued over 700 parking tickets in the last month. Neither the Sheriff nor the Parks Department are very pleased with the situation. If you have an idea of how to get the ramps open without causing a Charley foxtrot, these folks would like to know :https://www.marincountyparks.org/about-us/contact-us
Please be respectful in your messages, but by all means let them know your feelings (within reason) as well.

Very nice looking fish Gage.
I spoke with supervisor Dennis Rodoni who was under the impression that you guys at lawsons were able to launch boats now and that Marconi was open to use. I sent him another email advising of the citations being issued and im sure it would help if others emailed as well DRodoni@marincounty.org
The answer to social distancing at a ramp seems pretty straightforward: Everyone stays in their vehicle until it is your turn to launch, then you need to park your trailer and depart the dock before the next boat approaches the ramp. This will triple launch times, but everyone stays distant and everyone gets to go fish. There are lots of out-of-work temporary county employees to monitor the flow at the ramp. Similar to the line at Costco.

When I was a kid sheriffs went after real criminals. Unfortunately California has changed since we were kids. Sad
How are they enforcing the residents only at Westside boat launch?
My boat needs to get into Masons Marina.

You should not have any problem with launching at Westside. I can't see what problem you would have.
Sonoma country residents only, same household were the rules they posted. Are they enforcing them?? There's some fish being caught in 200' off bird, 100' OTW
I would take my chance all the way to superior court with any tickets with this nonsense!!
I just finished reading Marin County's reopening of certain public areas, including Nicks Cove. Nowhere does it mention you Have to be from Marin County. Can this be true???
Nicks cove restaurant is open the launch is miller launch and it is still closed and has no plans on reopening when i spoke with the chief ranger yesterday afternoon. He states that the county health officer won't allow it to reopen
Thank you for the update. That would have been a long ride from Granite Bay for nothing. Might stick to Richmond. Launched saturday and it was a long line at 5:30 am but went smooth. 8 legal butts and one striper for 4 of us. Trolling. Hopefully Marin Co wakes up soon. Might have to dump a lot of crab bait into the garden compost pile.
i was in the richmond line saturday. got there 520am. it did move ok. fisherman all have the same agendy. luckily i wasnt behind 50 ski boats lol. With one friend drifting live anchovies. some how we only caught one in 5 hours of fishing. Biggest cali hali i ever saw in person though. 38 inch 23 pounds. Caught a 34.5 yesterday. weight 17 pounds. 6 pounds after fileting.
Pt Reyes/Tomales area will be the last of any part of the county to re open due to the huge numbers of people that flock and congregate there. Lawson's might be an exception because it is privately owned and distancing/etc can be controlled at no cost to the county. If you think Richmond lines have been long wait until Miller opens. The kayakers alone will clog the ramp to no end. I've written off Miller and am only fishing out of Lawsons from now on, regardless of open status.

I feel your pain, this sucks, we have a week at the end of july fishing and camping at lawsons, hope they open soon.
Berkley marina launch on Saturday had what seemed a mile long line that went fairly quick. It began to get busy at 5am. However on Friday, Sunday, and Monday it was basically wide open. No waiting at all. Leaving Berkeley Marina in the morning is always very smooth. But by noon the wind starts to pick up and you’re likely going to be in store for a bumpy ride home.Fishing for Halibut was good in the South Bay but very slow and rough in the Berkeley flat area. I will be glad when Lawsons opens back up. It’s a lot more comfortable. Better fishing. Any word Willy when that day will come?
In tomales for hali. you want out going tide. slower moving or faster moving tide better? thanks
Just an idea as I understand the chaos that could happen upon opening boat launches. What about issuing a pass with dates and times and vehicle and drivers license info to each party with a hefty fine if the people are not out of the parking lot according to their time slot? It might take some work to organize a Google calendar or something for this to work, but at least it would get people back on the water in an orderly fashion!
Not a good plan. Let’s not give the bureaucrats and more ideas to make our lives even more complicated. Fishing is supposed to be easy and relaxing. Filing for a permit to get out on the water would be a major downer.
Hey Willie is there still no boat launching
There's an hour wait to launch in Berkeley on busy mornings. Richmond is open. Alameda is open. The east bay has no increase in Covid cases.. Quit feeding the fear machine. This is ridiculous.
Loch Lomond is open Marin is playing games they opened parks I went to west marine in Sausalito the skate park was open and filled with kids You can go to a corporate owned Starbucks or Home Depot but not small business. CDC says the risk of exposure on surfaces is extremely low but certain launches are closed in the county when based one one persons decision. I thought we had a guiding principle in this nation of Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness from the Declaration of Independence. I’m a little rusty something about these are rights afforded to all humans which their governments are created to protect. I carried these beliefs overseas I like to think during these current times that my brothers and sisters didn’t die in vien and that we didn’t kill a whole lot of people and invade countries for nothing.
Spud points' latest statement was the facilities are for Sonoma county residents only unless you're commercial. There are other places to fish.
Well said, I want to go fishing but prefer to stay away from SF bay
Local, it's not just about fishing from a boat. It's about clamming, poke poling, surf fishing, hiking and access. The draconian measures taken by Marin and Sonoma Counties is in no way justifiable. The entire California coastline is open except the 30+miles of Marin County and the 55 miles of the Sonoma County Coast. Right now there are no cases of Covid in the Marin and Santa Rosa Kaisers. I'm a local too and these are my/our waters. To keep people from the land they own when the Covid numbers don't justify it is criminal. I've written 2 respectful letters to the Marin and Sonoma health officers. You can see how well that's worked. haha Very frustrating to say the least. My family and yours should be able to hike and fish on the coast. Period.
Worst idea ever. Possible worse than "obamacare"๐๐
We as people of the United states must stand as one for our rights as AMERICANS. WE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE POWER. Cowards like Newsom & Pelosi are very afraid of our power. Dont be a compliant sheep
The scamdemic is over, the dempanic is lingering.
Mentioning politics ?: Newsom and his aunt Pelosi are sheep herders and the liberal populace is their sheep. Sad.
You call over 95k Americans dying with COVID19 in the last 60 days a scam? I guess it takes all kinds...
Called the New Sea Angler 5/22/2020 he said he is allowed to go out June 1 with customers so pretty soon we should be able to fish.
How nice of the GOVERNMENT.
It's disgusting what they have done, a real shame!!!! This is only the beginning.
anyone go for salmon recently? Update would be much appreciated. thanks
