Here's a report from Friday that was happier: "Hey Willy, we found at least one nice salmon from your report yesterday by the trees. Lots of squid around. Seems like fish were biting early and stopped. 22 lbs

Mike on the FisherKing" Getting there early didn't mean you were guaranteed fish but it sure improved the odds. Nice fish.

David Gibbs caught this 28 pound salmon yesterday. There was another salmon (not as large) on the boat as well. I think I heard of about seven caught from boats out of here yesterday. The weather was not good but most of the boats that stayed out into the afternoon got a good saltwater rinse. Today's numbers and weather were not as good .The fish have been caught from the North end of Ten Mile to at least Tomales Point in 40 to 100 feet of water. Some places have more jellyfish and/or salmon that others and both of those things move around.

Joel Quist spent a week here chasing after halibut and not having too much luck. He will agree that the halibut fishing leaves much to be desired this season. His last day out, though, his luck turned dramatically when he landed this 16 pound white seabass on 4 pound test. I didn't think to ask why he was using such light gear, but whatever it was, it worked. The fish bit a previously frozen anchovy and Mr. Quist spent twenty minutes or more chasing it with the boat since turning the fish on four pound test wasn't really an option.

Interesting I was out Saturday, didn’t see any squid. Typically massive bird schools accompany squid, so it’s easy to spot. If I somehow missed them, hell yeah!!!

Hi Willy! Is there anytime in the next few week (or so) that you feel a 16 foot Boston whaler would be safe (flat enough) to hunt for salmon? Or maybe you could tell me what forecasted conditions I would want to see that might be right for such a small boat. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

According to Windy.com, tomorrow is your window in the next 10 days and it ain't a great window. 6 feet at 9 seconds is still pretty sloppy. I expect other opportunities but I don't know when.

6 feet at nine seconds in a 16 foot whaler it’s just a little bit out of my comfort zone. I fish by myself so it’s a rare day I can get out to the fishing grounds. Probably why I spent a lot of time in the bay. Thanks buddy

Awesome feat of angling landing a 16lb WSB on 4 pound test and a light spinning rod! He must have been spooled multiple times!

SF Bay was crapola. Happy I didn’t try for Bird.

There were a literal couple of salmon caught in the shallows. Early only. Deep off of the Head had better numbers for sure but running gear at 150 to 250 feet down ain't as much fun as at 60 feet. Of course, catching is generally better than not catching. A lot of people are looking for the next wave of shallow fish and they will be found, eventually. But not today.
