Don Mosby caught a limit of halibut this morning and left the fish biting. He was fishing by Hog Island and was out of the water by 10:00 AM. The fish weighed 23.5, 21.5 and 13 pounds. Other guys watched him do it but didn't catch one themselves, so I guess it was a good bite for Mosby only. He seemed okay with that. I haven't heard any happy words about salmon. A few guys are getting some Dungeness but not all by a long shot.

I'm heading out tomorrow. Any idea what's tempting these butts? I'm guessing the usual live baits, but I always have some bucktail jigs on hand......

As far as I know, all the fish but one came on live bait. The one came on a trolled rubber shad. I would soak liveys and jig a bucktail while I wait.

I'm heading out to hog island this coming wednesday(weather permitting). Where are the best locations around the island for halibut? Is it in the channel or in shallower areas near the sides of the island?

Definitely in the channels but not usually in the deepest holes. If possible work the edges of the channels by the eelgrass beds or near drop-offs or reefs. They can be out in the flats, too, but hungry ones, in theory at least, go to where the little fish are.
