The weather was okay today with a nice morning, a little rain, and then some wind and a little larger swell in the afternoon. The Dungeness catching was....okay. A few guys did well with some limits and near limits inside Tomales Bay and in the Outer Bay. One boat ran to Ten Mile and did very well. The most impressive thing was the number of almost legal Dungeness. It will be very good crabbing at the end of this season and the start of the next one. Lots of 1/8" shy crab out there. There was at least one warden in a boat working inside Tomales Bay today and he was one busy dude. Don't be tempted. The current in the bay was pretty strong in the afternoon and there was a lot of rings that didn't make it home. If yours was among them, look again tomorrow, as it may still be where you left it or somewhere towards the mouth of the bay.

Not open for crab traps, but you can use hoop nets and snares.

They are open for hoop nets and snares, not pots.

Contacted a friend of mine in Sacto DF&W . On Nov.16 the Dept. will decide when to open Sporty crabbing in Dist. 10, Zone 3 (Bodega/SF) area. It appears that they want to open it up before Thanksgiving so people can have crabs for the holiday dinner. That's the good news; however, it may appear that Commercial may open at the same time. I will assume the open date will be the Sat. prior to Thanksgiving. And you know what happens when one assumes. I presented the idea why not let trap users drop their traps and follow the same rule as the hoop nets and snares. He did acknowledge that could have been an idea, but was not brought up. DUH! I mentioned it appears a tad bias against the sporty crabbers. I also asked why not give a week separation between sporty and commercial start dates. That is also to be discussed, ya'll know what that outcome will be.....commercial will start with sporty so as to get crab out to market for Thanksgiving, again assuming. Regarding the opening of abalone in the future? That was another lengthy conversation. Be very careful who you vote for in California , choose wisely! Just saying. Good luck fishing & crabbing to ya'll mateys!
