No fish to report today as the wind was blowing a literal gale, as predicted. What do you do if the wind is howling? Obviously, grab your crappy pool toy and paddle out to the clam islands. What's the worst that could happen? Luckily the worst didn't happen today and nine people were retrieved from the island by the Marin County Fire Department. The only complaint came from the rescued, as they called Lawson's Landing to complain that they weren't being rescued fast enough. I guess the helicopter flew over but didn't stop and rescue the people standing in six inches of water. How rude! I guess the helicopter crew and firemen were operating on the assumption that just because you can't see the island it doesn't mean it's not still there. The clammers were not making that assumption. Our newest employee, Jennifer, got to field her first panicked (and angry) clammer phone call today. They were pretty sure that they were going to drown while the first responders were readying their boat. Jennifer advised patience and not swimming. Luckily, they listened. And at the end of the day, the crappy pool toys ended up where they belong.
