Similar story on crabbing; slow in the bay, a little better outside. Shore snarers had a few keepers yesterday but not any full buckets. The commercial guys won't be dropping gear until after Christmas due to no buyers until then. Conditions seem good for surfperch but I haven't heard any reports. Herring reports from SF bay are that they haven't started spawning yet, so they likely haven't started here, either. More waiting, I guess. But, while we're waiting, wrybread has another picture show for us:

That's the Tomales Bar. It looks different when you're on it. The camera view is zoomed in from 3000 yards away and highly computer processed. But you can see Red Rock.

And @Rokefin, yup the bar is super directly right in front of Red Rock. If you're diving on the far side of Red Rock (towards the point and ocean) you'd see a sandy hill that slowly rises from 60 feet deep or so out by the bell buoy to maybe 8 feet deep next to Red Rock (depending on tide of course), then it starts slowly going back down to deep water again. It's a really abrupt crest right in front of Red Rock, hence the doom. After getting caught there a couple of times I hear spooky music in my head every time my boat is passing under that rock, even in summer.
The breakers at the point are also doom, but easier to avoid.

As I recall, the Raptor was driven out there by some camper or another. Even if I recalled his name, I probably wouldn't call him out, even if he kind of deserved it. The seawater likely caused a whole slough of fun long-term "quirks" but once we got it pulled out, it drove out just fine. Better than one would've thought given his sudden stop.
