The crabbing slowed a bit more, both in and out of Tomales Bay. Ten Mile has held up so far but the
commercial pots will start dropping in the water on Wednesday, so the size and quantity of crab there will likely drop rapidly. North of Bodega Head will be open to sport fishermen only for a while longer, so that'll be your best bet for good numbers this weekend through Thanksgiving week, depending on the crab tests.
You know, one of the benefits of living here is the ability to check your crab gear from your front yard. With a decent telescope you can count the number of crabs in your pots when other guys pull your traps. This got me to thinking; If a bank can put a dye bomb in the bag of money carried away by a robber, is there any reason why a water balloon full of bait dye attached to a crab pot line would get somebody in trouble? The balloon pops in an electric pot puller and marks the offender without harming him. Asking for a friend.

I like to rig a lead head up close to my boy but am thinking some barb wire might be better. These dirt bags don't have to keep a bait freezer running or make bait jars. What if I rig a go pro to my pot would dfg use the evidence?
If dfg denied fishing licenses for 3 yearsto any one found violating rules we might not have so many pot raiders

If you take their license for three years or dye bomb them they'll just keep it up, these theives are already breaking the law and will continue...I've found many bouys cut from thepotsthis yeari know friends whom lost their pots, so they thought, but in reality they were stolen....drone footage might be the better answer and conviction with time in jail!

The thieves are the ones at the docks without bait and or already baited bait jars.
A boat with just a crab puller and no bait is a sure tail sign of a pirate.
Fish and game and (Willy) could easily identify the bandits by checking boats for bait at the boat launches prior to them heading out.
No bait most likely = no pots of their own...
I’m sure there is the exception of a googan or two that would run there own gear without rebaiting them.

Yup, you are right on your comment on crab pirates. That is why I and my crew only soak for 1 hr. per drop. We generally get our limits in two drops. Secret spot North of the head in 80'- 90'. Well worth the extra distance.

It is so much b.s. that the fish and game or county cops can't spend a couple of days ridding around in a boat and checking a few things. just the known fact that they might be out would deter most of the dis honest . 169.00 for the pot plus a rope plus a buoy plus a bait bag or jar plus the cost of the puller plus the time to make sure your stuff is in good shape with the correct go id badge. It makes you want to do a torpedo run on the scum who pull other peoples pots. couple of sunken boats would improve the fishing reef.
1-2 crab per trap on weekends, 10-12 on weekdays...hmmm
