Bob Kalanatra of Fairfield caught this 22 pound salmon today.
Nick Nichols sent over a few pictures from the water. He had two salmon and one keeper ling between Buoy "02" and Bird Rock today. Yes, there's still keeper sized lings there, even though there shouldn't be.
While there's still a few salmon being caught off of Bird this weekend, the best bite was out deep in 270-280 feet of water off of Bodega Head. The fish were up high on Saturday 18 to 30 pulls. On Sunday there were mixed reports of jellyfish moving into the the area but there were still guys able to get their limits after a bit of shorty sorting. There were a few halibut caught in the bay this weekend but it was definitely not on fire.

Hey willy i was wondering what do you think about trying for salmon close to shore out of bodega, like the outer bay? Ive been wanting to get my 15’ skiff out, ive been watching the weather calm down a bit this week. Do you think its worth trying to find some skattered fish, or just play it safe chasing halis in tomales bay? I know you said they been gettin them in the deep water but thats to far for the little boat.
Stay on the inside unless it’s a lake out past the rock
Kyle, your 15 foot skiff is definitely doable on a good day - no worries. No matter the day always wear a life jacket, usually there will be enough boats around to help in a time of need.
Last Sunday on a rolly foggy ocean we saw a very small aluminum boat down by the trees, it can be done but that boat really had no business being out there on a day like we had.
Don't venture into the fog without radar my friend
People die or narrowly cheat death almost every year out there. At the risk of being morbid you would be well advised to understand what they did or didn't do to wind up that way.
Hey thanks for advice really appreciate it. I will keep that in mind and be watching the weather for the calm days the best i can. Gotta get out and get some experience. And make more big boat friends!
I was out in tomales yesterday afernoon and evening and the weather was like any fisherman dreams of calm and comfortable. Found the anchovies but only 1 short hali by the weather buoy
The guys that go all the time might make it look ez but there are days they don't go, for good reasons
