Here's some video of the big surf this weekend which topped out at 26 feet. Good weekend to stay on the beach. The surf was not too high for the surfperch, though, which bit OK for the few guys that tried for them. If you go, the fish were biting near the sand point which (probably not coincidentally) also had smaller (and safer) breakers. Avoid wading on the oceanfront beach and don't even think about the rocks during swell like this. There are other ways to kill yourself that won't have people reading about your accident and commenting on your poor choices.

Also, here's a video my son stumbled over on youtube of Scott from Auburn catching his largest halibut (so far):

Good stuff Willy - you must of received my email to post something/anything to keep us ocean folks entertained....keep it coming.

Yea, nice hali by Scott. I believe Scott had a pretty good year chasing the flat fish.

Yea, I did, about 7 total, with 4 or 5 trips, did 3 trips back to back in July, long days when you come from Auburn.
Kept all the carcasses for crab bait, however the crabbing was not on my side this year, with one trip for four days after the opener out of Doran beach for about 10 crabs over those 4 days. I think the swell was killing it, some say halibut heads are not oily enough, any way I got enough for my famous crab bisque soup Friday night with sherry, lots of sherry! LOL
Chomping at the bit to get back out there again.

Well i guess it was found on facebook or the boys were quick on the youtube updates because it caught me off gaurd to see that pop up here. The film dosnt show the true height of the swell at all to be honest. Due to salt spray and terrible lighting the film came out a lot worse than i expected but turned out ok in the end. Also the calmer film was from sonoma coast on a different day for those curious. Ive crossed the bar in some nasty weather but never been able to see it blowing up like that. Hopefully i can get some better film in the future but for now i got a few diving videos on my page if anyone is curious what its like underwater.

I love how he is mostly alone at the beginning but 17 minutes later the boats are creeping up on him. That is a great job of fighting a big fish and getting it into the boat solo.

Yes, that was the terrible mistake I made and it would have came out so much better if I realized the sun reflects off the water so strongly, and after YouTube downgrade it made it show even more terrible. I've only done underwater film so I am learning as I go with the above ground stuff. And those SOB's are learning quickly how to get free meals. Don't take my word for it but I believe DFG approves paint ball guns as a deterrent method.
