Alec Bennett went out with Bob King on Wednesday and caught this 26 pound salmon as part of their limits. Their fish were trolled up by the Keyholes. Most of the fishermen did well on salmon, mostly off of Ten Mile Beach but also in the outer bay. Both bites died yesterday and only a few fish were brought in here. I lucked in to four salmon at McClure's and saw four others caught there, but I wouldn't call it a good bite. Halibut was almost dead in the bay and on the beach.
Jack Stevens sent in this report:"Attached is photo of Stacey Szczekocki's first ever salmon. We fished off Fort Ross on Sunday Sept. 11th. with bait in 80' of water. Stacey's fish was the only salmon caught that day." That fish looks like it would have won our salmon derby.

That's what I want to see - more salmon caught. Good job. Hopefully the fish will stick around a few weeks longer, I tried to make it yesterday and today but busy and needed rest.
How late in the season are halibut on the beach?
Any word on crab testing yet Willy? I can feel the crab fever coming upon me and hoping not to be disappointed again like last season.
Halibut have been caught on the beach in December, but usually October is about the end of it. It really depends on water temps. Crab testing of reds has been going on sporadically all summer and they just started on Dungeness. You can follow along at home here: http://www.cdph.ca.gov/HealthInfo/Pages/fdbDomoicAcidInfo.aspx So far they have checked 18 Dungeness crabs and one failed the test at the Russian River. By a lot. Point Reyes and Pillar Point tested good. What's that mean? Honestly, I don't know, but I heard that they may be shifting the "bad" number from 30 ppm to something higher, as it was felt that 30 is exceptionally too low. It's probably bad, though.
