Jesse Keilman of South Lake Tahoe got out into the ocean before the wind came up to get this 20 pound salmon from 60 feet of water off of Tomales Point.

Scott Alexander from Rocklin caught this 35 pound white sea bass south of Hog Island today. He was trolling for halibut with Johnny Sandbar and local legend Gerard Fitzgerald. They did not catch any (keeper) halibut today but the WSB seemed to be a pretty good consolation prize. They also boated two thresher sharks. They may want to think about having the drags in their reels checked.

  1. Willy, when you say they are trolling for halibut, are they bouncing along the bottom with a weight and leader out on a three way? Or are they just pulling a lures behind the boat, like a rapala or something? How far will a halibut swim up off the bottom to get a bait or lure?

  2. These guys are bouncing bottom with weights and leaders, etc. Another guy did well Sunday behind downrigger balls and at least one halibut of his was caught on a deep diving Yozuri diVing lure.

  4. Very few moochers. Actually, not too many fishermen, period. Aside from the huge school of krill that was around a few weeks back, almost nobody has found a steady concentration of fish or bait to mooch on. If you could find a school of anchovies that was not in the surf you could probably do very well. I've only found the surf ones, but I have heard of a few roving schools out there.
