The newest tests gave the all clear to reopen the red crab sport and commercial and sport Dungeness seasons south of Piedras Blancas Light Station (35º 40' N), and so the CDFW has done so. Now, your chances of catching a Dungeness in the currently open area is about as good as your chances of catching a spiny lobster here, but even so, what the hell? I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that there may be an increase in the CDFW's angry email inbox(AskMarine@wildlife.ca.gov). Also, please keep the foul language in check in the comments that are already coming in. I mean, I agree with those comments, but still. I guess we do what we've been doing, grumble and wait.
Boat rockfish is closed now, so it looks like its sand dab time for boat fishing. The water is still close to 57º below Cordell, so there may be bluefin still out there, but you probably still have a better chance at one of those lobsters. There have been a few stripers caught on the beach I hear but nobody sent in a photo. I tried for one for a photo and dinner yesterday but caught nothing but a rock.

There are for sure shrimps in the bay, but i dont know the best spots or tides for them. But as a person who farms oysters they come up once in awhile to say hello
Yes, lots of ghost shrimp, at least here by the mouth of the bay there are a lot. Along the sea wall area on a medium-low tide is very productive. I used to get mud shrimp further back in the cove past the sea wall where the fenceline goes in the water but it got buried in a storm about ten+ years ago and I haven't got any here since. There must be some more around the bay, I just haven't haven't found the right gooey mud. I don't fish for sturgeon, so I'm not looking very hard.

I prefer my crabs to have some radiation in them. Makes them even tastier and some times they have extra legs which is a bonus.
I will fish for crab, I will leave my giger counter at home. Because someday I'm going to croak and most likely of unnatural causes. So, why worry. Live life in the now, you never know what's going to happen, some of you need to relax
Im just saying look it up actually learn about fukishima its already been found in our tuna in san diego and by the way they know that it is specifically from fukishima radiation by the unique radiation from that disaster but go ahead get mad at someone bringing something new live in ignorance or check it out and demand they do more to stop the leak oh you dint know that either did you its still leaking years later but you being ignorant of the diaster is what they want then you wont demand a fix oh yea im the problem sure and you believing the mainstream media is the solution good luck with your crabs while they are poisoning our ocean
Acceptance is not ignorance, Most of us are fisherman and if we can't get the state to open the crab season, what makes you think we can get the Japanese to put a few corks in the reactor housing. It's not that I don't care, it's that I am a realist.
So you are against the new self-cooking crabs? Kidding. The amount of radiation is ridiculously low from Fukushima so far. That will change if they don't get to fixing it. The amount of radiation in you and your food from US atomic weapons testing is higher than the Fukushima taint. The mercury in your fish from coal fired power plants is a bigger concern. I'm still eating them.

What defies logic is that rock crab was open and everyone who wanted to was eating them all summer right up to the dungeness opener (closure).
Did anyone hear of any health issues with rock crab before the closure?
Jhfish you have a better chance at life of eating fish out of the ocean with radiation then eating fish from some farm that feeds their fish who knows what
