Since there won't (or shouldn't) be any salmon pictures for today, here's one from yesterday. Team Barton claimed no problem with getting the fish to bite but keeping them attached was an issue. They fished off of Tomales Point in 200 feet of water. The clams took a beating again this past weekend but that's it for the really low tides on weekends until next year. The clams could use a break, and so could the rest of us. The crabbing is still holding up when the current isn't too fast.

Boy, the clamming scene has gotten to be a zoo! Aside from the Fish and Game limits, can you limit the number of clammers, or just the number of day use vehicles? Do I recall the clam beds were closed for a while several years ago to let them rest and recoup? Could that be done again?

Actually, the problem is that we are limited to only 100 day use vehicles. Last Sunday that number was reached by 6:15 AM and then everyone after that was turned away. Many preferred to wait and many others parked in town and walked in, some carrying boats. This limit was imposed by the Coastal Commission to ease traffic.
The clam beds have never been closed, but it would be up to the Department of Fish and Wildlife to close the islands. We stopped the barge to limit the access but people have purchased their own boats, and in some cases, air mattresses, to access the islands.
