John Crippes and his father, George, caught these four salmon on board the Adrenaline, crewed by Terry Fogal and Ron Johnson. They were trolling between Tomales Point and the esteros on Friday. The fishing was and is slow but the fish are there if you work hard for them (and are a little lucky).

Hi -- This looks to be a great blog. My wife and I are just thinking about getting into fishing here in Tomales Bay. I haven't fished in like 25 years, and she's never fished. We'll be fishing out of a Sea Eagle 370 inflatable kayak. Any tips for neophyte fishers?

I am not that familiar with kayak fishing procedures, but my suggestions are to get a small live bait bucket (like a Plano Deluxe Trolling Bait Bucket or equivalent) and figure out what you're going to do with your fish when you've got him to the boat. Halibut, Tomales Bay's primary sport fish, are large and strong and I wouldn't want one in my lap. A stringer that keeps your fingers out of his steel trap-like jaws would be good.
