Two guys, two boats, two days of limits. They're not saying exactly where they were, only that there were other pots there. Look for the buoys. The pier is still kicking out a few dungeness. The snares have been fairly consistent producers from the pier. Best bait is squid, fatty chicken and mackerel.

Still getting a few dungeness on the pier. No limits, but dinner for the lucky ones. A few surfperch are being caught but they haven't been very big. Looking ahead, rockfish season is scheduled to open June 13 through the end of October. Salmon is officially scheduled to open on April 3rd, but the Pacific Fisheries Management Council will meet in March to determine the length of any potential emergency closures. There will surely be closures. Let's hope that we get at least a few weeks and that those weeks come when there are actually some fish to catch and some weather to fish in.

The crabbing has slowed again. Saw a limit from a boater in the bay and a few other crabs from the pier but no big numbers. Maybe all these storms have got them hunkered down. Better weather and slower tides will hopefully kick a few out this next week. Surfperch fishing is slow. I haven't seen any sharks or rays yet this year. Spring low tides are coming so at least we can go clamming and cockling.

The crabbing has picked up again in the bay. Last week a local had twelve legal dungeness in his pot after an overnight soak on the pier. Two of the regulars caught their limits from the pier this morning. The crabbing can be even better from a boat if you're in the right place. I'm not supposed to tell you the good spot, but if you see fifty crab pot floats in one little area I think you'll get the idea.

The crabbing has definitely slowed down. While there is a still a good chance at getting a dungeness or two off the pier it is not the near certainty of the start of the season. Even from a boat, getting a limit is difficult. The red crab are still available to make up for any dungeness you're lacking. I haven't heard of any perch caught this past week, but then again I haven't heard of anyone fishing, either. Rain is forecast for the weekend so there may not be much to report next week, either.
