Last year around this time Gage and I announced that halibut season was open after the Gage caught a couple of (freak) halibut in front of the Landing. Today's halibut came from Inverness in 60.5 º water. It was his only halibut bite (perch don't count) but it came from a likelier area and method (trolling). It ain't wide open but, game on. Finally. Oh, yeah, they taste really good, too.
In other news, the only other boat from here today limited out on big Dungeness inside Tomales Bay. The shore snarers have been getting a (very) few keepers lately, but our boat crabbers today caught thirty keepers in the area between Tom's Point and Sand Point. Their traps had lots of females (20-30) and usually 1 to 2 jumbo male Dungeness. It added up to thirty, so... Two boats, good days for both.... The reports will never average as good again this season.
