The forecast was bad for today. Gusts to 35 knots by early afternoon. I couldn't talk my brother-in-law Scott and his stepson, Caden, out of coming out to salmon fish today. Good thing they're stubborn. The water was way better than forecast (it was actually one of the flatter days this year for me) at the start. The wind held off until we had seven fish in the box and at that point we decided to go for limits. It only took ten minutes to catch the final fish. We went eight fish in the box for seventeen hookups. We had three doubles. We fished the Trees in 80 feet of water and caught our early fish down by the bottom and the later fish up high at 30ish feet. Five of the eight on hootchies, two on bait/dodger, and one on straight bait. Caden caught the largest salmon at 25.5 pounds, Scott had a 25 pounder and my devil fish weighed 22. Smallest fish weighed about ten pounds but next up was seventeen. We saw a few other boats working the area and only a couple of them seemed to be catching. That seems to be the norm this year, as you'll get them (or totally not get them) one day and then get skunked (or limit!) the next. Last trip we couldn't get bit on hootchies and today the fish had a hard time leaving them alone. Only a few other boats launched from here today and Cameron didn't hear of any fish caught by them.
Great report Willie! Glad you went out and had an awesome day. When I was leaving the landing yesterday morning it looked pretty nice out there considering the forecast! I guess they can always just guess the weather never really get it right. Anyways glad to see they’re hitting the hooch! Looks like fun. Great job 🤙🏻
