So the weather was fairly nice on the beach for most of the day. Apparently there's a bunch of salmon, mostly not huge but a lot of them, out in 230 feet of water off of Bodega Head. Gage and I went out this morning and found no bait in front of Bird from 60 feet out to 160 feet. By the 160 foot mark the tops of the waves were starting to fall off and we decided that in the interest of having a future with fishing (or really anything) in it, we should probably go fish in the bay. So we went. We got our live bait pretty quick (there's some schools of anchovies in the hole near the yellow buoy) and then some more (the rip North of Hog held quite a few smelt) but we couldn't get bit. At 11:45 we decided to call it a day. At 11:46 a school of stripers boiled right behind the boat. We decided that a few more minutes of fishing couldn't hurt.
Incredibly, Gage was able to land this striper on the rod I had baited and deployed. The bite and boilers were across the bay from the Boathouse. Live anchovy 10 feet down worked. We heard of at least one halibut caught from the North side of Hog today. I would assume that there were more caught than that but I only spoke with the one fellow. I would have posted earlier but work, life, and the totaling of my beloved Tundra got in the way. At least, I'm pretty sure she isn't coming back. Ever been in a traffic accident when you had 30 gallons of diesel and 38 gallons of gasoline in the bed of the truck? What a rush.
