No pictures today but quite a bit of South wind. Our only salmon fisherman got blown off the water by noon with only one fish on and off in 80 feet of water at the Trees. The halibut fishermen had better luck (and weather; the waves were smaller) with about half getting limits or close to them and most of the rest catching a few. Live jacksmelt and anchovies were the baits of choice today, and boats worked from Marshall all the way up to the Landing. The channel near Marker 5 had a number of boats fishing in it although I'm not sure if it was because the fishing was good or if the wind was less there. The gusts peaked over 26 knots and left baits skipping over the surface of the water, far from the mouths of hungry halibut. The seagulls were pretty cool with it, though. The forecast calls for some more South wind this week but now that the fog has rolled in the wind may have less to prove and will hopefully just be unpleasant.

  1. It appears so. Things can change quickly and we seem to be the last to know when they do, but at this point we're planning on being open. Camping and day use are outdoor activities that, so far, have been allowed. But things can change

  2. Hey Willy,
I need some information from your crystal ball. What's the out look for salmon this weekend?
Any and all information from you is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Matey.

    1. No crystal ball but the magic 8-ball says "outlook good". Calming waters should equal greater catches in shallower water. These are both things I like. I would consider Abbott's Lagoon, mostly because I like the area a lot. It has been pretty good off of the Head in 230 to 250 feet but I'm going to try off Bird tomorrow in 240 feet as the Man suggests. A hunch is not as good as a tip.

    1. Okay at best. A rare halibut, very occasionally a striper, okay surfperch when they're in. Decent shark and ray fishing when the water is warmer.

  5. To the unknown...
You can fish the bay just past Tony’s seafoods on the side of the highway. There are a few other spots along the bay to fish from the road. Pretty much anywhere you can legally park and access the water can produce fish.
    High tide is better.
Or better yet grab your oysters put them on ice and head down to Lawson’s landing and fish from the bay beach there.
Or if at Lawson’s if your down, hike around the sand point and try for some stripers or perch in the surf.
