With all the salmon, albacore and halibut talk the rockfish decided that they'd better start pulling their weight and bite today. It wasn't a red hot bite but the lings were friendly enough to keep it interesting. It sounds like the salmon bite below Point Reyes was great again today. I hope it's true that they're moving this way, since the forecast is shifting to, well, let's call it breezy. That can be a long way home against the breeze. Then again, if you stack all of your fish up forward you can smooth out the ride a bit. I'll have to think about this more...

  2. 25-30 miles for a few. Best action sounded like 35-40 miles out. Wind forecast there for a couple weeks (like here).

  3. Jeff on the miss Anita hooked 20 fish but only 4 fish. Reason he says is his client wont take advise he gives. Since when does a paying client have to take his advise. Yet alone be singled out buy the Capt Jeff.

  4. Again we listen to one more Anonymous idiot ...I suppose you think some guy that lives in the valley that fishes in the river would no more about fishing salmon in the Ocean than a six-pack captain ??? Who would not want to take advice from the captain? I mean isn't that what you're paying for mr. Anonymous?! are you kidding me!!?? who would you take advice from???

  5. Whats this? Anyone with an opinion other than your own becomes an "IDIOT". Perhaps you could get your point across without demean posters. But then again that is the same M.O. as caption Jeff isn't it.

  6. Thanks Captain Ron I was going to post something along those same lines yesterday but Willy has this thing set up where I cant respond from my phone. So I have to wait till I find a dinosaur (desktop computer) to type on. I don't really care what happens on others boats I have been fishing the Dillon / Bodega area long enough to know how to find fish (with out a radio or the latest report from the internet). Don't get me wrong everyone has their skunk days. But if they are biting they are normally in the boat. And after the second fish you lose I'm not going to give you advise, I'm going to take your pole away because gas isn't cheap to watch you not learn from your mistakes. Plus who knows how many more years before its all shut down.

  7. So after you remove your customer of his fishing equipment do you feel obligated to refund his fishing fees? Or do you go ahead a fish for the guy and supply him with a limit of fish since they are just jumping in your boat and your the only qualified person to now catch fish. Jesus I'm glad I don't have to use a party boat to go fishing. Because sometimes I just enjoy being on the water and having a that good time called fishing.

  8. I guess I was referring to your comment being idiotic more than you yourself... who knows you might be a nice guy but you sound like a pissed-off commercial fisherman or just jealous with that being said those captains work real hard to send every client home with a limit of Quality Seafood maybe some people don't have the skills that you have or maybe they don't own a boat they go out with a skilled Captain they get to take fish home don't have to go buy it from the grocery store I spent a lot of money a couple weeks ago on a bluefin trip out of San Diego I thought I knew what I was doing but I wasn't looking any fish the captain gave me some advice guess what I started catching fish sometimes it's better just to shut up and listen

  9. How the hell do you lose 20 salmon and only catch 4. I would be trying another 6-packer. Possible a longer rod and firing the deck hand whose not controlling the drag for the clients. I thought clients pay to learn how to catch fish not lose them. At the end of the day I would of been ashamed of myself as a captain for losing those fish and letting greed overcome my morals of letting a paying customer have the thrill of fighting a one. I would highly suggest trying another charter. I agree with anonymous #1 and captain w"Ron"g just from your comments you don't have the experience to suggest other wise.

  15. A charter business that lies what creditablility. Just to get clients on there boat so they can take the rod out of there hands. I think that there interest isn't in the right place and not worth the hard earned money of $200 to put salmon on your plate. It's suppose to be exciting and the thrill of the fight that returns people. A good sportsmans would know that and anyone defending his behavior falls into the same bait bucket as the other dead fish w"Ron"g. Actual there are more then 3 anonymous post on this thread but they all make you to be a jack ace. Be sure not to take this guy on your boat his a hot head and assuming he probably yells at children for losing fish.

  16. Its hard for me to respond to anonymous cuz there are so many...but this post is for the "expert "... so I did some checking with the owner and the captain of Miss Anita and we discussed the day in question...it seems the fisherman had his kids and grandkids on board and was not a very good Sportsman the advise the captain was giving him was to leave the rods in the rod holders longer so the salmon could get hooked... instead he kept grabbing the rods and by the way pushing his kids and grandkids out of the way to get to those rods so you should check the Sportsman that you're defending... Anonymous... unless maybe this is you Grandpa!? Well at least now we know why Grandpa is posting as anonymous and by the way Gramps good luck getting your kids or grandkids to ever go fishing with you again

  17. If I'm on a charter I'm listening to the captain....anything otherwise just doesn't seem to make sense.

  18. Good job smoking out old grandpa. He does sound like an extremely difficult person to deal with. I remember a time when we revered our elders regardless of our own feelings. I also remember when my grandfather became anxious and lost his ability to be patient not because he was a bad sportsman but more because that is what happens when people grow older. Good job there captain you got a lot more to learn than just how to teach people how catch fish. Your beginning to smell like the fish you catch

  19. Anonymous the expert ...Your story is just ever-evolving now you want us to feel bad cuz the guy was old Why are you hell-bent on slandering the crew of The Miss Anita!? They work hard each and every day to send their clients home with fish and show them the time of their lives and most days they accomplish that ...this guy was a horrible Sportsman did you read the part about him pushing his grandson out of the way to grab the rod...telling his granddaughter she doesn't get a turn on the rods... anonymous go find a hobby other than posting on this blog... you're clueless and you're defending a horrible Sportsman which makes me think that you're the guy... your grandpa ...give it a and next time you take your grandkids fishing if they'll even go with you let the kids fish ... and Anonymous if you're not Grandpa you're a horrible Sportsman to think for one second that this guy is in the right and the crew of that boat did anything wrong...

  20. Ha you can always tell when the fishing is bad by the bickering in the comments. I think we all just need to hear the words "FISH ON!" and everything will be ok.

  21. Wrybread...so true...contact Gordon the owner of the Miss Anita book you a trip on one of his boats or call Rick on the sea Angler... they have been getting limits of Rockfish and or salmon almost daily... or if you have your own boat there's been a pretty good bite from Bird Rock all the way down to 10 mile

  22. Captain Ron what boat are you on? Can't believe that you own one. All this talk about these charters seems like your the idiot who runs behind them to the supposed salmon grounds. The expert hasnt posted since the creditablity comment and this isn't him now. In so many words you are describing yourself as a captain. Stop it's ruining your imagine. Don't worry about the charter business it's not your business. Just catch some fish. As for the expert he sounds genuine. Some people can't hear the truth.

  23. I keep getting ding on this blog and can't remember what has been going on. Captain w"ron"g thinks I'm the grandpa- wrong. Rokefin taking a neutral position in general and just does what the captain says. Wrybread seems that the antidote is to get a hook up. Anonymous #1 has takin the side of respecting the elderly. Anonymous #2 seems to be uncertain of captain w"Ron"g ability to be a captain and takes a slight turn to agree with me (maybe a previous trip on that boat). As for the expert that's me. I would devise a vote as to take W"ron"g away from being a captain and make him a solid deck hand not just a greenhorn but someone with some knowledge of people but lacks the knowledge of how to fish ( A guy who receives orders well and can admit when he is wrong)..............lets refer to him as first mate w"Ron"g.

  31. This guy can't even spell two, four then he desires to just use the number system. That's that trade off to coordinates. Between 11 and for and 11 and to. In to hundred and twenty to feet of water, forty for on the wire..........Moron.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Must be Common Core arithmetic!

  33. Hey 11x11,
If your gunna post numbers post real ones.
You say 11x11? 220' of water? 44' on the wire? The water depth at the 11x11 line is into the 300' - 325' or if you understand that's 50-54 phathoms ... we all appreciate a report on fish locations only if it's actually accurate, your report is up to 100' of difference in depth that's not accounted for. If you hook salmon enough then you know that 100' is a lot of hiding space for them as well depth you need to cover to find the fish, I speak for myself and all the other fishermen who share honest and accurate reports.
I do share numbers occasionally, but when I do I always make sure they are accurate so nobody fishing is trying to fish for that are not even there based off inaccuracies. So then there isn't fishermen taking a day off work or blowing off their wife, scrambling to get Day care for their kids, chartering a party boat as the captain or the crew... ummmmmmmmmmmm......
I might as well and would like to include the veterans, retired and unemployed, documented and undocumented, LB/Gay/transgender community all the Silver Spooners out there, Trust-fund High Rollers and last but not least the hard ass working men... who we all have one thing in common, we all call ourselves fishermen. Thanks!
And to anyone reading this take consideration for all of us fishmen and women. And enough about how so many fish were lost and who is to blame on the Miss Anita... we all lose fish if you fish enough and as well if you fish enough we all catch fish. Please post real fish stories and news... to the undisturbed and emotionally challenged people don't bring your feelings into this blog we all have our own baggage and most of us do not want to hear about yours.

But on that note sounds like you found some fish so good on ya!

    Safe fishing.....
    SPACE INVADER OUT...

  34. .... this is the SPACE INVADER wanting to finish my thoughts. Sorry I got off track had to much to cover...
so the report may be based off 220' water depth
so there may or may not be fish caught at the 11x2 line
220' feet of water or 36 phathoms
    40' on the wire...
    on what bait?
    Guess we don't care...
