These guys caught 25 Dungeness out of one of our rental boats today and weren't even the high boat. They've still got a lot of cleaning and boiling to do. High boat (that I spoke with) had 34 keeper Dungeness. The area north of marker 5, as usual, was the spot, even though, as usual, not everybody did as well. Some crabbers got skunked and some did well, with most guys getting a few, and most guys working the same area. I don't know what the Tomales Bay secret trick is. Fresh squid? Clams? The souls of unchristened children? Nobody will tell me.

And then these guys. Gage and his buddy Nick caught these two nice Dungeness on the pier this morning. They were using chicken for bait. There were others caught on the pier but Gage will tell you that these were the largest ones.

  2. Had a great day crabbing off Carmet in 80ft of water. Started the morning off on the outer bay for nothing but 2 crab in 9 pots. Moved all my gear north for easy limits with a hour and a half soak. Weather was big and rollie but very fishable.

  3. A few boats did cross the bar without killing themselves. They caught some crab in the outer bay but it wasn't a wide-open crabfest. Even if it was, it ain't worth risking your life...

  4. That was the hardest we had to work for 16 crabs in 2 days, at least they were decent dungy....8 Saturday and 8 Sunday.
It was CROWDED in Tamales and we were near marker 5 but just did not drop in the right spot, some did ok Saturday near us but most people had few crab.

Can't complain, we are eating crab and the weather was great this weekend on the inside - we would venture out to the bar crossing to pass time and it was always nasty breaking all the way across - never did see an opening.

Why do all these people tow little buoys behind their boats;)

  5. I was happy for the owners to see the place packed out, especially after losing all that permanent trailer revenue. You guys do a good job providing a great service. And if no one died for crab this weekend, well that is a huge plus.
