Some of the local guys get a little bent when I put photos of halibut that were speared on the bar. So, these fish didn't come from there. He totally caught them at Hog Island. Yeah, that's the ticket. Only a couple of boats went out in the wind today and these were the only fish I saw. Tomorrow is supposed to be better.

  2. California halibut is open year-round. They bite during the summer and fall. Pacific halibut (which are super rare here) has a confusing season but you can check the regs here: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/pacifichalibut.asp

  5. They pick up a few, usually from the deeper holes in the bay.

  6. Thank you. Does it mater if it's an incoming, outgoing tide. Or it's a big or small tide for halibut by hog island.

  7. I hear the best time for sevengills is at the bottom of a very low tide. For halibut, usually around the small tides when the fishing is easier.
