Since we have had at least ten phone calls today asking about (or telling us that) the crabs being closed again, let me just say, no, they are not closed here for sport fishermen. The same rules are in effect, that is, crab is open but don't eat the guts (one of the easiest rules I've had to follow, I must say). Commercial crabbing is closed here because they sell the crab whole and they aren't allowed to sell a product with a portion of it exceeding the guidelines. So, go crabbing. Or don't. More for me.

Thanks for clearing that up Willy. Some people don't follow the season as some of us but I can see how some were confused. Yesterday on the way in to work the radio station report talked about how they were not going to open the Dungeness season North of Point Reyes on December 1st as planned. We know they meant commercial crab season but they forgot to mention that. They just said Dungeness crab season. Good ole media. Anyhow hope to get at least a few more days in December. Just waiting for a better weather window but know how this time of year those damn swells seem to be bigger than earlier in the year. Cheers!!!

Looks like we have some decent weather coming into this weekend. Hell i don't mind the big swell as long as the wind stays at bay.

Are rock crabs open?

Yup. Same rules as the Dungeness for eating them, though. Don't eat the guts.
