I like getting pictures of successful fishermen on here but I usually don't have to crane my neck so much to get the photo. This guy was having a hard time flying with the perch he caught. He was almost as proud as Gage but less lippy about it. Some guys went out yesterday evening and caught quite a few perch, so it's not just Gage and the ospreys; regular people can catch them, too.

I love to see a young die hard fisherman like Gage. Reminds me of myself at that age. We'd fish a mud puddle if we thought it held fish. Any kind of fish.

Hey Willy,

If, and that's a big IF, they open up crabbing in the bodega bay area, will the crabs still even be there in the outer bay area? ( I assume they will be there further out) I remember last time I was out in April or May, they were all small females. But because the commercial fleet did not suck up all the crab this year will there be more out there? Not sure it is worth "busting a gut" to get there on the opener. (if there is one)Especially coming from the Reno area.

Any news from how they are doing off Pt Reyes and south?

I always start out crabbing the outer bay and do very well for the first few days but move my string far north towards the river after that. But who knows how its gonna play out once this thing opens up. I'm hoping for plentiful and big crabs right out front. I'll probably drop a pot for 1 hour to see what it produces before i drop the rest of my gear.

From what I have been reading on the Coastside Fishing site they are doing really good South of Point Reyes. Also reading about the usual lost pot, raided pot and downright thievery. Hope for the best.

It's nice to hear that some things don't change. My guess, when (if?) it opens, the crabbing in the outer bay will be just OK. Just OK is still way better than no crab at all, and we may all be aching for an OK salmon season after this year. It will be the slow time of year for Dungeness, but without the commercial and sport pressure (the outer bay is mostly sport pressure and there's a lot of it) it you should still have a good shot at limits of nice crabs, especially if you spread your gear around a bit at first to find where they're holding.
