The new fish to beat weighs 41 pounds

Joe Downing of Santa Rosa fished with Mike Mayry and Jeff Lanzaro and caught the largest fish of the six, a 24.5 pound salmon.

Here it is, the new board leader at 41 pounds. It was caught by Sharon Joyce of Woodland, along with a 23 pound salmon. Bill Plumb caught a 22 pounder and was an excellent net man, I'm told. The funny thing is that  this fish had chartreuse dye on and in its mouth, yet these folks weren't using any dyed bait. Anybody lose a large salmon off dyed bait? He looks like this.

The Dream Team, fishing with local legend Gerard Fitzgerald, came back with five limits of salmon that ran from 20 to 26 pounds. If you look close enough you can see the glint of greed and testosterone in their eyes. Or, they might just be tired. Left to right is Cameron Vogler, Braden Woodward, Scott Alexander, and Gage Vogler.

Shane Ridgeway's big fish today was a 24 pound salmon. He currently lives in Islamabad, Pakistan. Kathy Wong of Washington D.C. lived up to her reputation and landed a 36 pound hog. These last two photos got their fish off of the trees but most of the successful fishermen today caught their fish off of the Bodega Whistle. There was lots of company there but everyone was catching once they got their gear down to about 50 to 60 feet, or at least that's the scoop from the guys I talked to. Finally, for a change of pace, there were three halibut caught by Hog Island today sized 14 to 20 pounds. Perhaps it's finally time for some flatties.
